As Real Madrid's poor form shows little sign of abating, Mauricio Pochettino's name has been continually touted as a potential alternative to coach Zinedine Zidane, although Graeme Souness believes that isn't a great sign for the Spanish club.
While stating that Harry Kane is one Tottenham Hotspur man ready for a move to Real Madrid, the Liverpool hero discussed how Pochettino lacks the necessary trophies to be a stellar candidate.
"Real Madrid can't be considering Pochettino based on what he has won," wrote the Scot in Sunday Times.
"His publicity is great and he's deemed to have done a good job at Tottenham, but if he's being touted for the job at Real, it tells me there is a lack of candidates.
"Zinedine Zidane's track record of two Champions League and a LaLiga title in the past two seasons is the standard expected there."
In their quest for a first trophy under the Argentine, Spurs face Newport County in an FA Cup replay on Wednesday with Juventus their opponents for the Champions League last-16.
