Playing for Real Madrid is an old aspiration of Robert Lewandowski's.
The Pole has always been one of those players not backwards in coming forwards when expressing his feelings for Los Blancos.
Years have gone by, but the thought of stepping on the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu turf as a Madridista is something he still imagines.
It's an idea that remains in his head, and the striker believes that the market can offer him that possibility in the summer.
The time has come to take the step and try an adventure that has always seemed impossible, and though it still won't be a simple operation, the insistence of the player will begin to move things along.
Bayern Munich seem determined not to close the doors to anyone who doesn't want to continue with them, at least that's what Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, managing director of the Bavarian club, said the other day.
Lewandowski's agent, Cezary Kucharski, is an old acquaintance of the leaders of Real Madrid, and there have been several times that he has dropped by the Bernabeu or gone to different appointments with those in power at the club.
They know themselves that before the closing of the past transfer market, Kucharski initiated an approach at the request of his client.
After four seasons at Bayern, Lewandowski can end a cycle that has lacked, at least for now, the Champions League.
29 years and 18 goals
Robert Lewandowski is 29 years old (he turns 30 on August 21), and he remains a fearsome front man, as shown by the 18 goals he has already scored this season in the Bundesliga, plus seven more in the cup and Champions League.
With an average of 50 games per season, he is one of the reference points of Bayern and so his departure from the club won't be easy.
Kucharski, however, hasn't hesitated to say that the player is on the verge of his last and big contract - and not necessarily with his current team, even though Lewandowski is tied to Bayern until June 30, 2021.
On two previous occasions, emissaries from Real met with the player himself, but in both cases the story could not have a happy ending.
Is now the right time?
