Real Madrid won 0-2 in the first leg of the Champions League last 16 in Rome. It was the first step for the 11th Champions trophy. Real was suffering at this game but Cristiano Ronaldo took the ball after a pass from Marcelo. He headed the gail and executed one of his trademark ‘Ronaldo chop’ to evade the Polish goalkeeper Szeszny. The Portuguese unleashed an unerring right-footed strike into the top right corner.
Los Blancos went on to win the match 2-0, after Jese Rodriguez added a second late on. They won the second leg with the same scoreline, going on to win the tournament with Ronaldo scoring the decisive penalty in the final against Atletico Madrid. However, Roma fixture was really complicated for Real Madrid. It was Zidane’s first big game as Real Madrid coach and team had several doubts after sacking Rafa Benítez and having lost all the chances to win La Liga. Therefore, Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal was very important for the future performance of the team.
